Goodman Goes on the IL, and Colorado's Injury List Hits 12
Hunter Goodman was placed on the injured list, the Rockies confirmed, after missing four straight games following a day-to-day designation. The team's only All-Star this season — 15 home runs, 40 RBI in 64 games — is also its most dangerous hitter, and his absence lands at the worst possible moment for a lineup already running short on healthy bodies.
Braxton Fulford gets the call to fill in behind the plate. He's shown some pop in limited time, so the position isn't completely bare, but Goodman's combination of power and consistency isn't something this roster can simply replicate. The injury list now stands at 12 players, with Kyle Karros still working through a concussion protocol and Tyler Freeman also sidelined. That's a lot of roster to manage for a team 46-68 and playing out the string.
The broader context here is that Colorado is in rebuild mode, not crisis mode — mathematically eliminated, 20.5 games back in the NL West, focused on what comes next rather than what's happening now. Zac Veen and Charlie Condon have both looked sharp since their callups, and Ryan Ritter has been the lineup's most reliable presence at the plate. The next 48 games are about getting those younger players looks, not salvaging October. Goodman's IL stint is a setback, but in a season this far gone, it's also just another data point.
