Glendening Suits Up Saturday
Luke Glendening will make his Rangers debut Saturday night against Ottawa, the next step in what the veteran himself called a wild ride back to the NHL. The Rangers signed him to a professional tryout agreement five days ago specifically to add depth at center, and now he gets his first game.
The center depth chart here is a little unusual — Juuso Parssinen and Mika Zibanejad are the top two by production, with Noah Laba further back. Glendening slots in as the kind of player you bring in for the bottom of the lineup: responsible, hard to play against, useful on the penalty kill. He is not going to change what this team is, but that was never the point.
Worth noting that the Rangers have been doing a lot of this kind of work since Shesterkin went down with a season-ending knee injury in mid-October. Reimer to Hartford for goaltending insurance, Glendening on a PTO for center depth. Small moves, practical ones. Saturday against Ottawa is just the next item on that list.
