Foote Is Still Here. That's About All the Good News.
The prospect Philadelphia signed on August 21 as forward depth insurance has left for Europe, ending his NHL pursuit and taking one piece of the Flyers' contingency plan with him. That's now been covered here twice in as many days, and the situation hasn't improved with the retelling.
What's worth noting as camp approaches: Nolan Foote is the last man standing from that brief flurry of depth activity. Cates, Tippett, and Murchison remain out, Michkov's contract is still unresolved, and the right wing situation is as thin as it's been all offseason — Konecny is essentially the only reliable option at the position heading into camp. The front office built a small cushion of contingency depth over the past two weeks and now has half of it.
My read is that Foote matters more than he did ten days ago, simply because the alternatives keep disappearing. A former first-round pick with a heavy shot fighting for roster time is a reasonable camp story. A former first-round pick who may be the only warm body available at a depleted position is a different kind of story. Camp is a week out.
