Foegele's Knee, Hodgson's Suspension, and a Left Wing Depth Chart That's Running Out of Names
Warren Foegele is out three to four weeks with a knee injury. Hayden Hodgson is suspended two games for boarding the Kings' Clarke. Travis Green confirmed both Friday. That's two forwards gone from the left side in roughly 48 hours, and it lands on a position that was already the team's most obvious structural problem before any of this happened.
The depth chart at left wing was thin coming in. William Eklund is the one player there who has produced anything meaningful this season. Behind him, Jaxon Cover and Blake Montgomery have contributed essentially nothing. That was the situation before Foegele went down and Hodgson got himself suspended. It is a worse situation now.
My read is that Green has very little room to maneuver here without either pulling someone from a different position or going outside the current roster. What he actually does — whether that's a callup, a lineup shuffle, or something else — we'll see. But the left side of this forward group is short on bodies and shorter on production, and the next few weeks are going to test whatever answers he has.
