Familiar Trouble: Bucks Open Camp With Five Key Players Day-to-Day
Milwaukee enters training camp with Ryan Rollins, Gary Trent Jr., Myles Turner, Kevin Porter Jr., and Kyle Kuzma all listed as day-to-day — the kind of injury cluster that, for this franchise, carries recent memory. Last April, a thinned roster sent role players into minutes they couldn't handle, and the results were ugly. Jericho Sims watched his field goal percentage fall 23 points as his shot attempts nearly doubled. Pete Nance's efficiency dropped almost 20 points when his minutes jumped 35 percent. The team went 10-20 over its final 30 games and 1-9 on the road to close the year.
The rebuild was supposed to leave that behind. The Giannis era ended in June, and the front office moved quickly — adding Tyler Herro, Caris LeVert, and others to build around a younger core. Rollins, at 17.0 points and 5.4 assists per game last season, is the new offensive centerpiece. Porter Jr. gives them a second playmaker. But neither has practiced at full health to start camp, and the depth behind them is untested at this level.
What made last season's collapse so damaging wasn't just the losses — it was how fast the structure gave way once the top of the roster went down. That's the pattern worth watching here. Five day-to-day designations in August don't mean much on their own. They mean more when the backup plan already failed once.
