Durant, VanVleet, and Adams Are Still Day-to-Day. That's Been True for Weeks.
Kevin Durant, Fred VanVleet, and Steven Adams have all been listed day-to-day since mid-July, and none of them have been cleared heading into the second week of August. That's a long time to hold that designation without resolution.
The practical concern is timing. Training camp is approaching, and Houston's offseason was built around a specific idea: surround the core with enough depth — Bogdan Bogdanovic, Marcus Smart, Oscar Tshiebwe — that the load on Durant and Sengun becomes manageable. That plan requires Durant to actually be on the floor for it to take shape. VanVleet, who exercised his player option to stay, is the backcourt anchor for everything the new additions are supposed to complement. Adams is the backup center behind Sengun, which matters more now that the Rockets know what happens when Sengun carries too much — his field goal percentage dropped from 59.3% to 46.9% in the final stretch of last season when his volume climbed.
None of these situations are described as serious. Day-to-day is day-to-day. But three players, three separate issues, no clearances, deep into the summer — that's worth tracking. The Rockets built a 52-win team last year. The version they're trying to put on the floor in October needs those three healthy to function the way the front office drew it up.
