Douglas Is Back for the Jets Game
Caleb Douglas will play Sunday against New York after missing three games with a right ankle injury. The rookie third-round pick cleared to return this week, which gives Miami at least a recognizable receiver group heading into a game they badly need to win.
Douglas had eight catches for 141 yards across his first three appearances before the ankle shut him down. That's a thin sample, but it's more production than the offense has gotten from most of its moving parts this season. Malik Washington has been the most-targeted option in his absence — 26 catches on 39 targets through six games — and the two of them together give Willis something closer to a functional top end at the position. Chris Bell is also active, so the room is as intact as it has been at any point this year.
None of this fixes the larger problem. Miami is 0–5 and losing by double digits on average, and getting Douglas back does not change the offensive infrastructure questions that have defined the season. But it is a small, real thing — a starter returns, the depth chart holds for one week — and in a season this difficult, that qualifies as news worth noting.
