Davis is questionable. Trae Waynes is next.
Jalen Davis is listed as Questionable, which means Cincinnati may be about to find out exactly how thin its cornerback room really is. The depth chart shows Trae Waynes behind him, then DJ Ivey — neither of whom logged meaningful snaps last season. The Bengals went through 2025 with essentially one cornerback producing at the position, and Davis himself wasn't exactly a shutdown presence when healthy. That's the hole a rookie or a fringe roster player would be stepping into.
This is the part of the defensive rebuild that the offseason spending didn't fully address. Dexter Lawrence and Bryan Cook were real additions. But cornerback stayed thin by count and thin by quality, and the front office knew it. If Davis misses time, Al Golden's secondary is running with players who have no track record of meaningful NFL snaps at the position.
My read is that this is the week the depth crisis stops being a roster note and starts being a game-day problem. The Bengals' defense has been the story all season — for the wrong reasons going back to 2025, and now for the right ones, tentatively, with the new pieces in place. Losing Davis, even briefly, tests whether any of that rebuild holds without its one proven corner on the field.
