D'Antoni Gets His Hall of Fame Moment. Houston's Health Situation Hasn't Moved.
Mike D'Antoni was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this week, and it's a legitimate organizational touchstone for the Rockets. His fingerprints on Houston's offensive identity run deep — the pace, the spacing, the comfort with volume scoring — and you can draw a line from his tenure to the way this current roster is constructed to play.
The timing is a little awkward, though. Durant, VanVleet, and Adams are still day-to-day. I've written that four times now. The induction is a good story, and D'Antoni earned it, but the franchise he helped shape is sitting in the same health limbo it's been in since mid-July with training camp closing in.
Nothing else has changed on the injury front. The Rockets waived JD Davison earlier this month, which was routine housekeeping. The three names that matter — the two offensive cornerstones and the backup center — remain uncleared. That's the actual news out of Houston right now, and a Hall of Fame ceremony doesn't move it.
