Cooper Is the Best Story on This Offense Right Now

Omar Cooper Jr. earned back-to-back NFL Rookie of the Week awards this week, which is a small thing to note and also the most straightforwardly good news the Jets have generated in a while. The rookie wideout has caught 15 of 17 targets for 288 yards and two touchdowns across five games — numbers that look even better when you remember he missed time with an ankle injury and only returned to the lineup in mid-October. He's been efficient every time he's been available.

The angle about offensive line stabilization is harder to support. Cooper is a receiver. The line remains a patchwork — Max Mitchell's status has been a weekly question, and the depth chart behind him is thin. What Cooper's emergence does do is give the passing game a second credible option alongside Garrett Wilson, which matters more right now than any structural fix up front.

The Jets are 2-5 and losing by less than two points a game on average, which sounds close until you remember they've lost five of seven. Cooper winning weekly awards is real. Whether it translates into wins over the next 10 games is the only question that counts from here.
