Colts Have Written Two Notes on This Secondary Already. The Problem Hasn't Changed.
The Taylor-Britt suspension is now a few days old, and I've filed on it twice. The situation remains what it was: Indianapolis opens the season without a cornerback it added specifically to address a position that was already thin. Taylor-Britt slots third on the depth chart at DB behind Cam Bynum and Sauce Gardner — and Gardner is listed as questionable. That's the secondary the Colts are working with for Week 1.
The cornerback depth chart lists Jai'Onte' McMillan, Mekhi Rodgers, and Mekhi Blackmon at the top three spots. None of them logged meaningful playing time in 2025. The Colts were working out corners as recently as August 4, which tells you everything about where this group stood before the suspension news arrived. Taylor-Britt was meant to be part of the answer. He won't be available for the first game.
The rest of the roster is in reasonable shape. DeForest Buckner is back and on track for Week 1. Daniel Jones looked sharp in camp. Jonathan Taylor is locked in on a two-year, $44 million extension. The offensive foundation is intact. The secondary is the one place where the Colts keep finding new ways to confirm the same old problem.
