Collins Is Out for Cincinnati. Houston's Rebuilt Receiver Room Gets Its First Real Test.
The hamstring injury that had Collins listed as questionable earlier this week has been confirmed: he's out for Sunday against the Bengals. That removes the one receiver on this roster who actually produced last season — 1,138 yards and six touchdowns in 2025 — from a group that was already assembled largely from scratch.
The depth chart heading into Week 2 at wide receiver is Kayshon Boutte, Jared Wayne, and Mitchell Tinsley. Boutte came over from New England in late August. Tinsley signed at the end of the month after time with Cincinnati. None of them have a catch in a Houston uniform yet. Jaylin Noel is back on the active roster after his summer injury, which is something, but his role last year was complementary. Jayden Higgins — the one young receiver who looked like a real piece of the offense — is gone for the season with a torn ACL. Dalton Schultz is healthy and remains the most reliable target Stroud has right now.
So the question for Sunday is straightforward: can Stroud move the ball against a Cincinnati defense without a proven outside threat? The run game is there — Woody Marks and David Montgomery give Houston options on the ground — and Schultz as the underneath anchor is not nothing. But defenses can account for that. The reconstructed receiver room was always going to get tested eventually. It's just happening in Week 2, without Collins, on the road.
