Collins Is Back. Now We Find Out What This Receiver Room Actually Is.
Nico Collins is active for Dallas, cleared from the hamstring that kept him out of the Cincinnati game and left his status uncertain heading into last week against Indianapolis. He's back in the lineup, and that's the straightforward news.
What's less straightforward is what surrounds him. Collins put up 1,138 yards and six touchdowns in 2025 as the clear top option in this offense, but the room he's returning to looks nothing like the one he left. Jayden Higgins is done for the year. Tank Dell is on injured reserve. The receivers lining up alongside Collins — Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel — were assembled in a ten-day scramble before the season began, and they haven't had a full game yet with their best player healthy. Dallas is a reasonable measuring stick for what this group can actually do together.
C.J. Stroud and the backfield are intact, and that matters. Stroud has the arm and the processing to make a thin receiver room functional. But there's a difference between functional and reliable, and Houston's close-game record last year — 60% in games decided by a score or fewer — is a reminder that this team can look fine until it can't. Collins being healthy doesn't fix the depth. It just means the Texans finally get to see whether the depth needs fixing at all.
