Chytil Exits Preseason With an Injury. Four Days to Edmonton.
Filip Chytil left Thursday's preseason loss to the Oilers after a freak collision with referee Riley Brace sent him into the boards. No update on his status has been issued. The opener in Edmonton is Monday.
This is the kind of thing that barely registers in a healthy camp. Here, it lands differently. Thatcher Demko is already out of training camp. Evander Kane and Derek Forbort have been on injured reserve. Mackenzie MacEachern is also unavailable. The Canucks were already thin up front heading into 2026–27, and Chytil was part of the group expected to help fill the secondary scoring void that defined last season's collapse.
The opener in Edmonton was already going to be a stress test — Lankinen in net, a blue line leaning on younger legs, and a forward group that still hasn't solved the depth problem the offseason was supposed to address. Adding another question mark to that list four days out is not ideal. We'll know more about Chytil's availability before Monday, but right now the Canucks don't have much margin for bad luck.
