Chiefs can't get through the first week of camp without the receiver room taking hits
Cyrus Allen was one of the early standouts of training camp — a rookie making enough noise that people were paying attention. On Saturday he left practice with a shin bruise suffered during a special teams drill, and he's now Questionable. Xavier Worthy, who was a reliable piece of the offense last season, also left the field the same day and is listed the same way. Two receivers, same afternoon, both uncertain heading into preseason.
The timing is what makes it sting. This was already a group carrying some fragility. Rashee Rice is back and active, but his situation off the field has never been fully resolved in terms of chemistry and trust. Tyquan Thornton is the depth chart's nominal top option at the position right now. Hollywood Brown and Travis Kelce give Mahomes real targets when healthy, but the margin for attrition in this room was never wide.
The broader camp picture hasn't been clean either. A hamstring sent someone off the field Friday, the day before Allen and Worthy went down. That's three injury exits in two days of practice, which is the kind of early-camp noise that usually means nothing — until it means something. Kansas City's 2026 is already complicated enough, between Mahomes' monitored ramp-up and the Bieniemy situation I wrote about earlier this week. The receiver room didn't need to add to the list this soon.
