Chase hits a milestone. The defense still has to catch up.
Ja'Marr Chase finished the 2025 season with 125 catches for 1,412 yards and 8 touchdowns across 16 games, cementing back-to-back recognition as the league's best receiver. The production is not in question. What surrounds it is.
Cincinnati went 6-11 despite an offense that, by point differential, deserved roughly four and a half more wins than it got. The defense gave back what the offense built, and Chase's numbers became a monument to a team that couldn't close. Jordan Battle led the defense with 125 tackles and four interceptions; Demetrius Knight Jr. added 106 tackles and three sacks. Those are functional totals, not dominant ones, and the gap between what the offense generated and what the defense preserved defined the season.
The front office spent the offseason trying to fix that gap — Dexter Lawrence added to the defensive line, Bryan Cook brought in for the secondary. Whether those moves hold is the 2026 question. Chase's milestone is real. So is the context around it.
