Chargers Open Camp With Both Starting Tackles Questionable — and No Easy Answers Behind Them

Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are both listed as questionable heading into training camp, which is not the note you want to start 2026 on when your quarterback threw the ball 555 times last season. The tackle depth behind them is Travis Burke and Alex Harkey, with Isaiah World currently out. That is a thin cushion for a team that already knows what happens when protection breaks down.

The Tuipulotu situation adds a small wrinkle on the other side of the ball — he missed the first practice of camp before returning Thursday, though only in individual drills. That one bears watching but isn't a crisis yet. The tackle situation is closer to one.

My read: the next 10 days of camp matter more for this offensive line than any other position group on the roster. If Slater and Alt are limited in team drills, the Chargers will have a real problem to solve before the preseason gets going — and the options currently on the depth chart don't inspire much confidence as long-term answers.
