Carolina Locks Up Three Wolves Prospects as the Pipeline Does Its Job
The Hurricanes agreed to terms with restricted free agents Cayden Primeau, Justin Robidas, and Skyler Brind'Amour on Tuesday, retaining the trio following a deep Calder Cup playoff run with the Chicago Wolves. Routine housekeeping, mostly — but the timing matters.
The major-league roster is still navigating the Jarvis absence, still thin up front, still carrying Brandon Bussi as the only goaltender with meaningful NHL playing time on the depth chart. The prospect signings don't fix any of that directly. What they do is keep the organizational floor from dropping further. You don't want to be sorting out RFA paperwork in October when you're already short up front.
Primeau is the name worth watching here. He's a goaltender by trade, and given that the Hurricanes' NHL crease situation remains what it is, any organizational depth at the position is at least worth noting. Whether he factors into the big-league picture this season is a separate question — but the Wolves run gave the front office a closer look at all three players, and they liked what they saw enough to keep them.
Small moves. The calendar is almost out of offseason. The harder questions — Jarvis's return timeline, what happens in goal if Bussi goes down — haven't changed. But the pipeline held, and that's something.
