Camp Opens With Two Stars Day-to-Day and One Less Exec in the Building

I've written twice now about Eric Amsler heading to Los Angeles, so I'll leave that thread where it is. What's worth noting as training camp arrives is the full picture stacked together: Miami's two most important players, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, are both listed day-to-day through mid-September, and the front-office voice most responsible for roster construction just took a better job across the country.

The day-to-day designations are described as routine status management, and there's no reason to treat them as alarms yet. But this is a franchise that bet everything on a two-man core, and both men in that core are being monitored heading into the first real practices of the new era. That's just a fact worth keeping an eye on.

The rest of the roster is in place. Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Nick Richards — the supporting pieces are assembled. Davion Mitchell ran the offense capably last season, and Pelle Larsson gives them a reliable third scoring option off the wing. The construction is done. Now it's about whether the two guys at the center of it show up healthy and together.
