Beckham Is on the Practice Squad. That's Where Minnesota Is Right Now.

The Vikings signed Odell Beckham to the practice squad this week, adding a name to a receiver room that has been gutted by Jefferson's ankle injury and thinned by the general chaos of this roster's fall. Beckham is 33 and listed as the depth chart's top wideout, which tells you more about the state of this offense than any single statistic could.

This is a team that traded McCarthy for a fifth-round pick, lost Jefferson to injury, and is currently starting Carson Wentz at quarterback. The receiver addition makes sense in that context — you need warm bodies who know how to run routes — but Beckham on a practice squad is a long way from the offseason vision of Jefferson as the centerpiece of a Year 2 McCarthy development plan.

My read is that the Vikings are in pure triage mode at this point. The Beckham signing isn't a pivot so much as it is a patch. Jordan Addison is listed as questionable. The backfield is thin. The quarterback situation remains what it is. There is no cavalry coming — just veterans willing to suit up for a team that is running out of options at almost every skill position.
