Baltimore Trades for Cam Jurgens. The Ioane Experiment Is Over.
The Ravens acquired center Cam Jurgens, ending five weeks of shuffling Vega Ioane between guard and center after the position collapsed under a cascade of preseason injuries. Jurgens is listed as questionable, so his availability for this week is not settled, but the trade itself is the statement — Baltimore decided the internal solution wasn't working and went to get a real one.
The backstory is straightforward enough. Danny Pinter tore his patella tendon in August. Ethan Pocic, signed to stabilize things, didn't last. Jovaughn Gwyn, an undrafted prospect, started Week 1. When that wasn't sustainable, the Ravens slid Ioane — their first-round guard — over to center, which solved one problem by creating another. Now Jurgens is here, and Ioane can go back to the position Baltimore actually drafted him to play.
The questionable tag is worth watching. If Jurgens can't go this week, the Ravens are roughly where they were. But the organization has now signaled clearly that it isn't willing to keep patching the middle of the line with whoever's available. For a team built around protecting Lamar Jackson and running Derrick Henry, that's the right call. Whether Jurgens is healthy enough to make it matter is the only question left.
