Arizona Extends Torey Lovullo Through 2028
The Diamondbacks have agreed to a two-year extension with manager Torey Lovullo, keeping him in the dugout through the 2028 season. The move comes at the end of a 2026 campaign in which Arizona finished 68-57 and spent the final weeks of the regular season chasing a wild-card spot, ultimately falling short of the postseason.
Lovullo has managed Arizona since 2017 and guided the franchise to its deepest postseason run in recent memory. The extension signals that the organization views the 2026 shortfall as a product of circumstance—a rotation gutted by injuries, with five players finishing the year on the 60-day IL—rather than a structural failure of leadership. The team was 1.5 games out of the last wild-card spot with 37 games remaining before the season closed.
The bet is on continuity: the core is young, the offensive pieces are largely in place, and the front office appears to believe the rotation depth that collapsed this year is a solvable problem rather than a reason to reset at the top.
