Amsler hire fits a front office that needed steadying
The Lakers already ran this item a few days ago, and the short version holds: Eric Amsler is in from Miami, joining as assistant general manager. What's worth noting now is where the move sits in the broader picture.
This organization has been through a lot of structural churn in a short stretch. Joey and Jesse Buss were pushed out last fall. The franchise has changed hands twice in roughly 14 months, most recently to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at a reported $12.5 billion. That is a lot of new voices in a building that still needs to make real decisions — training camp is close, Luka Doncic and Ziaire Williams are both day-to-day, and the roster has been rebuilt almost from scratch around Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Pulling someone from Miami's front office is a reasonable place to look. The Heat have a reputation for organizational coherence and player development infrastructure that most teams would take seriously. Whether Amsler specifically moves the needle is a separate question, and one that plays out over years, not weeks.
For now it reads as a stabilization move — new ownership signaling it wants experienced front-office hands in place before the season starts. Small hire, reasonable logic, right timing.
