Thomas, Broberg Each Post 3 Points as STL Rolls BOS 4-1
Joel Hofer stopped 31 of 32 shots while Robert Thomas and Philip Broberg each put up three points to power St. Louis past Boston 4-1. The Blues answered an early deficit with four unanswered goals and never looked back.
Boston drew first blood at 5:28 of the first period when James Hagens tipped one past Hofer — his fifth of the season — assisted by Casey Mittelstadt. That lead, however, lasted barely ten minutes. At 15:43 of the first, Jimmy Snuggerud snapped one home off feeds from Broberg and Thomas to level it at 1-1, and the score margin that had briefly tilted Boston's way was gone for good. That's the turning point of this game: the moment St. Louis erased the deficit and seized control of the narrative.
The second period is where St. Louis buried this one. Broberg stepped up at 5:17, wiring a wrist shot past Jeremy Swayman — assisted by Connor McMichael and Dylan Holloway — to put the Blues ahead 2-1. Less than seven minutes later, Thomas added his own wrist shot at 12:08, with Justin Barron picking up the helper, and suddenly it was 3-1. Swayman finished the night with 14 saves on 18 shots, allowing 4 goals — and it appears the Bruins' goaltending was the clearest gap between these two teams. Boston managed 32 shots on net, but the offense couldn't convert when it mattered.
Jake Neighbours iced it in the third, backhanding home his fourth of the season at 12:42 — with Broberg and Thomas each picking up their second assists of the night to complete their 3-point performances. That's the story of the night: two Blues skaters each going 1G-2A in the same game, with Thomas finishing at 1G-2A (3 pts) and Broberg matching him exactly. On the other end, Hofer was composed and sharp, turning aside 31 shots to earn the win. St. Louis looks like a team that can generate offense from multiple sources and has a goaltender capable of protecting leads — a dangerous combination this early in the season.
