Kaprizov, Hughes, Shabanov Each Score as Wild Rout Vancouver
Minnesota scored four unanswered goals before Vancouver finally responded, turning what could have been a competitive game into a 4-2 statement win. Three Wild skaters — Kirill Kaprizov, Quinn Hughes, and Maxim Shabanov — each posted a goal and an assist on the night.
The tone was set with 1:27 left in the first period, when Shabanov buried a snap shot — his third of the season — off assists from Kaprizov and Matt Boldy to put Minnesota up 1-0. It was a late gut-punch to close the frame, and it proved to be the turning point: the margin shifted from zero to one and never swung back Vancouver's way. That goal cracked the dam.
Minnesota didn't let up in the second. Bobby Brink — on a backhand, his first goal of the season — pushed it to 2-0 at 5:54, with Michael McCarron picking up the helper. Then, at 12:55, Quinn Hughes joined the party with a snap shot of his own, assisted by Joel Eriksson Ek and Shabanov, making it 3-0. The Wild appeared to be playing a completely different game than the Canucks at that point — three goals, three different scorers, and Vancouver's Leevi Merilainen already facing a mountain. Merilainen finished with 30 saves on 34 shots, which looks like a respectable workload, but four goals against tells the real story.
Kaprizov put the game to bed just 3:38 into the third — a backhand, his 13th goal of the season, assisted by Hughes (his 13th assist) — and suddenly it was 4-0. Vancouver's two late goals, from Max Sasson at 6:24 and Brock Boeser at 16:53, both off Elias Pettersson assists, amounted to cosmetic damage on a scoreboard that had long since been decided. On the other end, Calvin Pickard was barely tested — 16 saves on 18 shots — which says everything about how lopsided the shot quality and territorial play felt for most of the night. The story of the night was Minnesota's depth: four different goal scorers, contributions up and down the lineup, and a defensive structure that kept Vancouver's offense largely quiet until the game was already over.
