Walker's 405-Foot Blast Caps Wild 10th, Astros Survive 7-10
Christian Walker hit a three-run homer 405 feet to left field in the 10th inning to turn a tie game into a 10-7 Houston win over Seattle. The Astros needed every inch of it — they had trailed by two runs just minutes before Walker stepped in.
Seattle came out swinging. Dominic Canzone singled home Arozarena in the first, and Josh Naylor followed with a sacrifice fly to push it to 2-0. Houston answered immediately — Yordan Alvarez crushed a solo shot 368 feet to right to cut it to 2-1 — but the Mariners looked in control early. That changed fast in the second. A Smith triple scored Walker, a Peña single scored Smith, and then Isaac Paredes reached on an infield single to third that scored two more. Just like that, Houston had flipped a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead, and George Kirby was in serious trouble. Kirby lasted only 4.2 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 earned runs, and 3 walks against just 2 strikeouts — a rough night for Seattle's starter that looks like the central reason the Mariners spent the rest of the game chasing.
Chase they did. Victor Robles singled home Naylor in the sixth to make it 5-3, and Seattle kept grinding in the eighth — a Rodríguez groundout RBI and a Rodden ground-rule double tied it at 5-5. The Mariners then took the lead in the 10th on a Robles triple to center that scored Donovan, followed by a Rodden sacrifice fly that plated Robles. Seattle led 7-5 heading to the bottom of the 10th, and it appeared the Mariners were about to steal this one. Robles finished 3-for-5 with 2 RBI — the story of the night for Seattle's offense.
Then Houston did what Houston does. Paredes singled home Peña to make it 7-6, and a Varsho single to left scored Allen and moved Altuve to second — that single swung the win probability from 18% to 61% in Houston's favor, a 43-point shift that flipped the entire complexion of the game. With two runners on and the crowd locked in, Walker unloaded — a 405-foot shot to left that cleared the bases and made it 10-7 in one swing. Walker finished 2-for-5 with a homer, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Paredes added 3 RBI of his own. On the pitching side, Peter Lambert gave Houston 5.0 innings of 4-hit, 2-earned-run ball with 6 strikeouts, and Josh Hader closed it out with a clean 10th — 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 strikeouts. The Astros needed all of it.
