Canzone's Two-Homer Night Sinks Dodgers 7-6
Dominic Canzone hit two home runs and drove in three, including an eighth-inning two-run shot that swung the win probability from 55% in LAD's favor to just 17%. Seattle walked out of Los Angeles with a 7-6 win on July 29, 2026.
This game had no shortage of offense or drama. Shohei Ohtani set the tone immediately, launching a 432-foot homer to center in the first inning to put the Dodgers up 1-0. Seattle answered in the second when Cal Raleigh went 403 feet to left to tie it. The Dodgers pushed back in the third on a Freeman groundball double play that scored Rushing, making it 2-1 LAD. Then the fourth inning happened — and it was a mess for both starting pitchers. Julio Rodríguez tied it again with a 402-foot shot to left, then Refsnyder followed immediately with a two-run homer to make it 4-2 Seattle. The Dodgers clawed back within one on an Edman RBI double, then Ohtani singled to center to score Edman and knot it at 4-4. Luis Castillo allowed 11 hits and 5 earned runs over 5.0 innings — he was getting hit hard all night — and the fourth inning alone looked like it could have buried either team.
The Dodgers grabbed the lead for good — or so it appeared — when Max Muncy went 430 feet to right in the fifth to make it 5-4 LAD. Canzone answered in the sixth with a 433-foot blast to center to tie it at 5. That's where things stood heading into the eighth, and that's where Canzone ended the conversation. He went back to center, this time 414 feet, with Rodríguez aboard, and the two-run shot moved the score to 7-5 Seattle. The win probability swung from 55% to 17% on that single swing — the decisive moment of the night, full stop.
The Dodgers made it interesting in the ninth. Ohtani doubled to right, and a fielding error by right fielder Robles allowed Rushing to score, putting it at 7-6 with Ohtani standing at third. But Seattle held. The story of the night was Canzone — 2-for-4, two home runs, three RBI — outshining even Ohtani, who was brilliant in a losing effort at 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI of his own. Justin Wrobleski looks like he pitched well enough to win, going 6.0 innings with 7 strikeouts and no walks, but five earned runs against a Seattle lineup that kept coming back proved to be one too many. Seattle's bullpen, led by a clean inning from Gabe Speier, did just enough to close it out.
