McCarthy Goes Nuclear: Two Bombs, 6 RBI in 15-3 Rout
Jake McCarthy went 4-for-5 with two home runs and 6 RBI as Colorado dismantled San Francisco 15-3 on July 4th. The damage was done early and often, with Colorado scoring in five of the first five innings and never once looking back.
The game turned before most fans had settled into their seats. McCarthy's 440-foot shot to right center in the first inning swung the home win probability from 47% to 60% — a 13-point lurch that, in hindsight, was the opening statement of a complete demolition. Colorado didn't stop there. A Carrigg walk plated another run, and a Freeman double play somehow scored a third. By the time Ezequiel Tovar launched a two-run shot to right center (392 feet) in the second, Colorado was up 5-0 and San Francisco's starter Ryan Walker was already in serious trouble — he'd last just 2.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks.
San Francisco scratched back to 7-2 through four innings, but the fifth inning buried them for good. McCarthy stepped up with the bases loaded and crushed a 427-foot three-run homer to right center, pushing the lead to 11-2. Carrigg followed with a triple to center that scored two more, and a Freeman single plated Carrigg to make it 14-2. That fifth inning alone produced seven runs and effectively ended any conversation about a comeback. Ryan Feltner, meanwhile, was quietly excellent on the other side — 6.0 innings, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, zero walks, and 9 strikeouts. Gabriel Hughes then threw 3 scoreless innings of relief to close it out. Colorado's pitching staff combined to allow just 3 runs all night.
Rafael Devers provided the only moment of genuine SF defiance, launching a solo shot 432 feet to right in the sixth to make it 14-3, but it was cosmetic. The story of the night was unambiguously McCarthy — two home runs measuring 440 and 427 feet, 6 RBI, and a performance that looks like one of the more dominant individual efforts of the 2026 season so far. Tovar (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) and Karros (3-for-4, 3 runs scored) piled on, and Carrigg's 3 RBI gave Colorado four players with at least 3 RBI on the night. San Francisco's Casey Schmitt went 2-for-4 with an RBI, but there was no saving this one. Colorado wins, 15-3.
