deGrom Looms Large as Rangers Host Struggling Angels at Globe Life

The Angels drag a 36-55 record into Globe Life Field on Tuesday night, walking into one of the more uncomfortable matchups a struggling road team can face. Our model doesn't have a validated read on this one — so we're breaking down the pieces and letting you draw your own conclusions.

Texas sits exactly at .500 at 45-45, a team that needs wins like this one to stay relevant in the second half. Jacob deGrom is expected to take the mound for the Rangers, and when healthy, that name alone reshapes a game's entire complexion. Los Angeles counters with Jose Soriano expected to start — a far less imposing presence on paper, and a tough ask against a Rangers lineup that has real teeth.

On the Texas side, the offensive profile centers on Jake Burger, who leads the club with both 15 home runs and 53 RBI — a genuine middle-of-the-order force who punishes mistakes. Josh Jung is hitting .297, giving the Rangers a contact threat to complement Burger's power. That combination makes Texas difficult to navigate even when their rotation isn't at full strength. Tonight, if deGrom is sharp, the Angels' offense faces a steep climb.

Los Angeles isn't without weapons, but the numbers tell a complicated story. Zach Neto leads the Angels with 19 home runs — legitimate pop — but a team batting average anchored by Nolan Schanuel at .257 suggests the lineup leans heavily on the long ball rather than sustained pressure. Jo Adell's 47 RBI show he can drive in runs when opportunities arise, but opportunities may be scarce against a healthy deGrom. The Angels' 36-55 record reflects a club that has struggled to string together consistent performances, and a road start against a motivated .500 Rangers team is not the spot to find a turnaround. No model read tonight means no lean from us — but the on-paper gap between these two clubs is hard to ignore.
